Antique restoration in York

About Antique Restoration By Steven Charles Popple & Co.

We have worked for several years now restoring many pieces of furniture, some old, and some not so old. We have even copied customers' items to reinstate a pair where one half of the pair has been lost or they have become separated through inheritance.

We have often been called upon to repolish or restore panelled rooms and floors, but we are asked more frequently to work on bannister rails and balustrades to extend them into new living spaces when homes have been extended into loft spaces or to repair and repolish them to their former glory.

We are based in a purpose-built centrally heated workshop just outside York's outer ring road near Huntington village. We are equally happy to work in your home to restore or re-polish floors, panelled doors, etc.

Steve has been in the furniture trade since 1986 when he began his apprenticeship with Shaw and Riley, Cabinet Makers. He realised that he was happier restoring furniture rather than manufacturing it, so he moved on to work with Farquharson and Baume, Antique Restorers and Upholsterers in Thirsk, before moving on to run the restoration workshop at he Main Pine company, and then on to run the workshops for French House Antiques. He also spent some time working with Andrew and David Podmore when they were based in Foss Gate.

Ben began his apprenticeship at Tomlinsons Antiques, working for Period Furniture in their Antique Restoration department. He then moved to become part of Steve's team at French House Antiques and they have worked together ever since. Ben runs the workshop whenever Steve is out to see clients or to collect furniture.
